Our Beach Bum Says:

Open from 5am to 10pm every day, City Beach in Long Beach, California allows guests to literally spend all day chilling on the shore. Start out with early morning jog or bike ride along the bike path (from Alamitos Avenue to the Belmont Shore) or through Bluff Park which overlooks the beach. Head over to the pier for a snack and then to the beach you go! There you'll see sunbathers, beachcombers, singles, couples, and families of all sizes and ages. So close to the city and yet so beautiful, you won't find a more convenient beach in the area!

City Beach is a swimmer's beach more than a surfer's beach, making it a great spot for families with kids. The breakwater wards off most waves, making a comfortable pool-like swimming area. Surfers should head over to the south end of the beach (near the Alamitos Bay area) where they may find more "surfable" waves. You'll also see tons of sailboats out on the water and lots of little islands too – sign up for a sailing adventure and do some exploring!

Need a break from the sun? Head over to Shoreline Village, just near the downtown area of Long Beach. You'll find great shops, galleries, and restaurants here – great for a lunch or dinner break when the swimming gets your tummy rumbling!

City Beach in Long Beach sometimes has a problem with debris and contamination, so check in advance before heading out there as to the condition of the beach.
