Our Beach Bum Says:

Seeking a relaxing getaway on the water where you can melt your cares away? Then look no further than San Pedro's Cabrillo Beach, where the serene and quiet feel, and breathtaking views of the ocean, will definitely do the trick. Actually two different beaches, the mile-long Cabrillo Beach contains one beach that's got ocean surf, and another, within the harbor, that's great for families who want to play in the sand and enjoy swimming in calmer waters. This beach is also popular for surfing, scuba diving, and volleyball or, if you're feeling the need for speed, you can try your hand at wind surfing or jet skiing. When you're ready to re-fuel, after a long day in the salty air, there are picnic tables and a snack bar to fill up your bellies. A playground is also available for kids who need a break from the sand.

Perhaps one of the most unique features at Cabrillo is grunion season. The silvery fish emerge from the water twice a month to lay their eggs in the sand under a full or new moon. While its illegal to catch them with a pole, you can join in the fun of the crowds with flashlights, and try to catch one by hand.

Cabrillo Beach also boasts unique treasures such as the large sand dollar beds a short distance off shore, and the Cabrillo Aquarium. Be sure to enjoy the fire pits and Hibachi style BBQ Grills. Plenty of parking is available, so hop in the car and come on down!
