Get ready for a classic California beach experience that's all about local flavor! Known as the surfer beach, Leucadia State Beach is known as Beacon's Beach by the locals and is filled with authentic Southern California surfing culture. A visit to Beacon's Beach will give you a peak into where young novices train to become surf pros, while you kick back and soak in the San Diego sunshine and the surfer vibrations. Though sand is scarce on this beach, you can still enjoy strolls across the cobblestone and kelp and even enjoy fishing and swimming. Dogs will also love going for a run at Beacon's, so bring along your canine companion too. It's important to mention that access to Beacons is only possible via steps; there is a small parking lot with a telephone, but no other facilities, so plan accordingly. Also, although the beach is closed between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m., since parking lot hours are more limited there are still opportunities for locals to get in some surfing and strolling by the moonlight. Do note that the bluffs along this stretch of Leucadia Beach are beautiful, but unstable so pay attention and stay on the trail to avoid falling.
