Things to do / Travel Guide
Shopping in southern California can be delightful but can also be very, very expensive. Everyone has heard about Beverly Hills with its famous Rodeo Drive, which is decidedly high-end and glamorous, as is La Jolla just north of San Diego.
There are also some niche-like shopping locations that are popular with locals in southern California. In Los Angeles, for instance, on the corner of Beverly Boulevard and Third Street, right next to the CBS television studios, there is the famous Los Angeles Farmer's Market. At Farmer's Market you cay buy everything from vegetables, to souvenirs and trinkets, to sushi, to French crepes.
The Grove is a brand new upscale “lifestyle center” in Los Angeles right next to Farmer's Market. The Grove is a premier indoor/outdoor shopping mall featuring over 100 stores, such as Abercrombie and Fitch, The Gap, and Nordstrom's. Many dining options and even movie theaters are also available at the Grove.
On Olvera Street, in Los Angeles, you can buy specialty Mexican-style handmade goods, while San Diego is home to Old Town which boasts over 100 different shops.
Almost every Sunday, there are flea markets throughout the entire southern California region selling secondhand goods, antiques, and a smattering of Americana. One of the more famously-known flea markets is located in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl.
For better deals on top-brand name goods, shoppers can check out the stretch of Ventura County between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.
