The Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace in Orange County's Yorba Linda, where visitors can purchase fridge magnets with a photo of Elvis Presley shaking hands with the former President in the Oval Office, is a must see for the politico aficionado-history buff. One particular area of interest at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace is the World Leaders' room, which exhibits all the various gifts the former President received while on various state visits to places like Egypt and China.
For those who are in the mood for luxury and a ghostly haunt (the ghosts are a rumor, of course), pay a visit to the Hotel del Coronado, perhaps the most widely-known and ornate hotel in the San Diego area. Originally built in 1888 with sugar pine, most people who visit the Hotel del Coronado don't actually stay there, as prices are quite expensive, but there is a fascinating 35-minute audio tour of the site. The audio tour not only provides interesting information about the high-profile past guests, but can also shed some light on the rumors that something supernatural exists at night within the hotel's walls.
La Canada Flintridge, near Los Angeles, is home to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). JPL builds satellites and unmanned spacecraft, like the Mars Exploration Rovers, for NASA. Guided tours of JPL are available and can be arranged through the Public Services Office.
