Fun Things to Do in Southern California
Southern California offers some of the country's best year round whale watching. Newport Landing is a great place to start your whale sightings with cruises available that bring you out to prime viewing spots. You'll not only see 80-foot giant blue whale, but dolphins, seals, killer whales, and sharks as well. Dana Point Harbor is another cool spot for whale watching and fishing.
Fun Things to Do in California
If you know anything about California, you know that its citizens are some of the greenest around."Natural," "organic," and "home-grown," are all local buzzwords commonly heard by Californians. It's no wonder, then, that the California farmers markets are some of the best in the world. You can even visit The Original Farmers Market, established in Los Angeles in 1934! There are local farmers markets up and down the whole coast of California and offer a fun theme for travel—go market-hopping in search for the freshest of fruits and veggies!
Fun Things to Do in CA
Disneyland not in your budget? Consider getting your Disney fix at Downtown Disney District, Universal City Walk, or Hollywood's Walk of Fame. These entertainment venues offer some of the best shopping and dining, plus you still get some of the fun of Disney and stardom!
California is also home to some of the best beaches in the world. A trip to CA would be incomplete without visiting Venice Beach, Santa Monica Beach, and oh so many more! Take some surfing lessons, learn how to sail, rent a motor boat, and start to take to the waters like the locals do!
Fun Things to Do in LA
After you get your kicks on Route 66, the road will bring you to Santa Monica Pier, one of the coolest things to do in Los Angeles. It's best to go at night when shops and rides are lit up, outdoor cafes are filled to the brim with diners, and the chances for live music become extremely high. Ride the vintage carousel and the giant Ferris wheel, get a henna tattoo, eat some cotton candy, shop at the 3rd Street Promenade, and then enjoy some of the country's best seafood—fished from right off the pier.
One of the favorite pastimes of visitors to LA is spending the day driving around filming locations, where scenes for popular movies and TV shows have been shot. The Warner Bros. Studio Tour is extremely popular and gives visitors an opportunity to see stars in action, on set. Other visitors choose to buy a map of the stars' homes and take a drive through the posh neighborhoods of Beverly Hills and Bel Air in search of Brad Pitt or Winona Ryder.
Fun Things to Do in Los Angeles
Still starstruck? Continue your search for the stars by heading over to view the billion dollar homes in Malibu. Not a bad day trip, considering you'll also see some world-class surfing and some of the most dramatic cliffs and mountains in the country. Rodeo Drive, 90210 is another fun place to go stargazing, but beware of those shopping prices.
Fun Things to Do in San Diego
Heading down to San Diego? Consider taking the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner. This coastal liner heads back and forth between Los Angeles and San Diego about twelve times a day and makes scheduled stops along the way so you can shop, eat, or even go to Disneyland along the way! San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano (home of the cliff swallows) are other popular stops. (Bring your surfboard if you plan on stopping at San Clemente!)
Carlsbad State Beach, located north of San Diego between Oceanside and Encinitas, is a great place for outdoor recreational activities. The narrow beach is a fantastic location for water activities such as surfing and swimming, as well as inline skating and jogging along the adjacent flat promenade, which stretches for six city blocks.
