Wherever scuba gear, kayaks, or paddling opportunities are available, power boating, sail boating, row boating, and pleasure boating are sure to be there, too. Traveling by boat or other aquatic vessel is probably the best way to see otherwise inaccessible areas of the coast. Boating along the coast can thus give you a unique perspective of many parts of La Jolla, San Diego, Newport Beach, Long Beach, the Port of Los Angeles, and Marina del Rey near Santa Monica.
Boats of every kind can be rented for simple day trips or longer cruises out on the open ocean. The Catalina Express and Catalina Cruises, for instance, offer roundtrip excursions between Catalina Island and Long Beach for about $55. In addition, both companies also offer boat trips along the coast for reasonable prices that are based on time out at sea and distance to be traveled.
