Things to do / Travel Guide

Los Angeles County

Home to many of Hollywood's brightest stars, Los Angeles is famous for its many celebrity sightings and hideouts. The Viper Room, Whisky A-Go-Go, and the Roxy are three of the most well-known nighttime hotspots, and are all located along Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood (also known as the Sunset Strip). Santa Monica Boulevard, also in West Hollywood, is home to a number of nightclubs that are popular with the locals, as well as with tourists in search of Sheryl Crow's inspiration for one of her biggest hit songs.

Hollywood is home to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese Theater, the Kodak Theater and the Hollywood and Highland Entertainment Complex, and Disney's El Capitan Theater. Generally, Hollywood is assumed to also include Universal Studios and Universal City Walk, which are actually located in Studio City. Universal Studios is a theme park where you can “ride the movies,” by taking a “Jurassic Park” boat ride or going on the “Back to the Future” adventure. Unlike Universal Studios, Universal City Walk is a free attraction. Universal City Walk is an upscale entertainment plaza located just outside the Universal Studios theme park, where many movie-themed shops, cinemas, restaurants, and bars are located.

Nearby Santa Monica is the home of Third Street Promenade, a pedestrian shopping and entertainment arcade brimming with trendy cafés, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. During summer days and nights, the promenade is filled with local artists and dazzling street performers.

Orange County

“Lagunatics” is a 13-year-old musical parody that makes fun of the local way of life in suburban Orange County. On several occasions the musical has starred not only the chief of police but also the mayor, as well as other local luminaries, all in a noble effort to raise money for local philanthropies. Lagunatics is held at the end of July and based in Laguna Beach.
Ticket prices are reasonable, at around $25 per person, with the proceeds going towards local area charities.

San Diego County

On Friday nights during the summer, automotive enthusiasts can visit downtown Escondido, in San Diego County, where, each week, an impressive collection of vintage hot rods are exhibited on the streets in “Cruisin' Grand.”

Old Town San Diego is a not only a great place to go shopping, it is also a great place to go eating; the Bazaar del Mundo offers a large array of international cuisine that tends to go over with out-of-towners.
