Things to do / Travel Guide
Skydiving is a particularly popular adventure activity in southern California. The rules are generally pretty simple: you must be over the age of 18, in good health, and weigh no more than 230 pounds.
People who get excited at the thought of throwing themselves out of an airborne plane over southern California are encouraged to take the adventure journey out to Perris Valley Skydiving School, located about two hours inland north of San Diego and east of Los Angeles. The Perris Valley Skydiving School is southern California's premier skydiving site. Professional skydivers are trained there, and the skydiving school is considered to be the best in the region. As such, advanced booking is recommended.
Hot air ballooning is another great way to get a bird's eye view of beautiful, sunny southern California. Many balloon operators offer free champagne as part of deals where travelers can choose to fly out to any winery they desire. Del Mar, at the northern end of San Diego County, is a popular spot for recreational ballooning. Prices for a balloon ride above southern California run from about $120-$170, and are generally higher on weekends.
Generally speaking, any time of year is good for airborne adventure travel such as skydiving and ballooning in southern California, so long as the weather is favorable to these extra-earthly thrills.
