At Coronada National Forest you can experience no less than 12 of southeastern Arizona's "sky island" mountain ranges that rise dramatically from the desert floor.
Covering 1,780,000 acres and with elevations ranging from 3,000 to 10,720 feet, there is endless exploring to do in the magnificent Coronado National Forest, a perfect location year round for hiking, mountain biking and bird-watching. Most exciting at the forest are the spectacular views from the mountains. After a decent from up high, you can find yourself in desert terrain, wandering among giant saguaro cacti and colorful wildflowers or even frolicking in the snow.
Visitors to Coronado National Forest can also enjoy camping, horseback riding, picnicking and historic sightseeing, Nature lovers will delight in the wildlife-viewing areas and the over 1,100 miles of trails around the Forest, where you may see anything from songbirds to bears. Fishing and boating are also available (though limited in this arid land), and even winter sports are possible in the higher elevations such as at Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley, the most southern ski area in the United States.
To get to the Coronado National park, take Interstate highway 10 east of Tucson, which offers many access routes into the forest via state highways.
