Our Museum Expert Says:

Visit a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in one! Find yourself eye-to-eye with mountain lions, prairie dogs, Gila monsters and more at the Arizona-Sonoma Desert Museum!

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is one of the most visited attractions in Tucson, with its great combo of attractions: a zoo, a museum and a botanical garden. The Museum focuses on the plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert, and is home to more than 300 animal species and 1,200 kinds of plants. There are interesting programs offered, such as "Walk with a Keeper," which lets visitors experience the Desert Museum behind the scenes as an animal keeper, with a one and a half-hour walking tour. The Invaders program helps to raise awareness about the negative impacts of invasive plants and animals and teaches people ways to help solve the pressing problem.

Aside from great nature programs and interesting animals, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum also has breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges and a great gift shop with excellent Sonoran desert souvenirs. If being around all the wildlife make you hungry, check out Phoebes Coffee Bar and the Cottonwood snack shop for sandwiches and snacks, or check out the Ocotillo Café or Ironwood Terraces.

To get here from I-10, take the Speedway Boulevard. Exit and head west. Turn right onto Kinney Road. In about 2.5 miles, the Desert Museum will be on your left.
