Arizona Getaways

The Saguaro cactus "forests" are a unique feature of this region in the Sonoran desert. The area, which was once all desert, has been transformed in the last few centuries into an area that also includes booming cities, sprawling grassy parks, amusement parks, museums, and stunning botanical gardens. Enjoy year round sunshine in or around the city centers, or visit the ghost towns, Spanish missions, and unique desert attractions.

Phoenix, Arizona Vacation Spots

In Arizona, if you're going to visit Phoenix, you'll probably also be visiting Scottsdale. The two cities are so close to each other that they practically serve as one large metropolitan area.
Think of Phoenix as the sports and entertainment center and Scottsdale as the resort center—if you're on vacation in the area, you'll probably want a little bit of both and go back and forth between the two of them, depending on how you build your itinerary around the local sports and entertainment schedules.

Are you a night owl, worried that you'll have nothing to do come midnight? If you're staying in Phoenix or Scottsdale, you won't have to look far for some after-hours entertainment at one of the nearby casinos. Casino culture is strong in the area (in the whole state actually), so if you're looking for something to do at any time of day or night, you'll have easy itinerary-fillers. And in case you are wondering why the name Phoenix? It is because the founders considered the town as being built from the ruins of a previous civilization. Not so politically correct, huh? And if you are still wondering - Pheonix, Phenix, Phoneix, Phonix are pretty common misspellings. At TripCart, we sometimes make spelling mistakes and Tuson seems to be a common one.

Tucson & Phoenix Tourist Attractions

The city of Tucson truly personifies the American phenomenon of the melting pot. Tucson offers a cultural blend of Hispanic, Native American, and Anglo cultures and languages. It is a true southwestern city in that respect, showcasing the importance of maintaining identity while simultaneously assimilating into American life.

The area is also varied when it comes to its offerings of tourist attractions. There's skiing, desert hiking, horseback riding, and bike riding, on the outdoorsy side of things; and for the tamer travelers among us, Tucson offers some of the best zoos, botanical gardens, and shopping malls around.

Tucson is a great city to visit because it's not too big that you feel overwhelmed with too much to do, yet it's not too small either where you'll worry about running out of tourist attractions to visit. You could spend a day in Tucson or a week in Tucson and either way leave the city feeling fulfilled in your sight-seeing. The city's laid-back attitude affects its visitors; when you leave Tucson you'll feel refreshed and relaxed…even if you had a busy, active, fun-filled vacation.

Arizona Tourist Attractions

There are a number of other tourist attractions and vacation spots in Arizona other than the cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tucson. Here are a few more suggestions:

Spend an afternoon touring the artistic paradise of Tubac. Here you'll walk through 250 years of Spanish history, represented in artists' studios and galleries. The artists' colony is illuminating, as is the historic Tubac Presidio State Park, where you can learn about the 18th century Spanish colonists, native life at the time, and about Arizona's first printing press and newspaper.

If you're in Arizona, you'll likely want to experience a taste of the Wild West, which you can easily do in Tombstone, Arizona. This family-friendly town—"the town too tough to die"—is filled with historic buildings from the 1880s built in the Frontier architectural style, the Boot Hill Graveyard, the old Tombstone Courthouse, and O.K. Corral. Nearby Bisbee offers the industrial history of the Old West. Bisbee started out as a mining town in the late 1800s and today you can see some of those historic sites amidst the Victorian and Art Deco architecture, artist galleries, and wonderful little restaurants.
