Resorts in Southern Arizona
Phoenix is home to some of the most luxurious resorts in the world. The Arizona Biltmore, designed by an associate of world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is the city's oldest resort.
The Boulders is just 16 miles outside of Scottsdale and is consistently voted one of the topt ten resorts in the U.S. Set among 12-million-year-old boulders in the foothills of the desert, it features two 18-hole golf courses, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, tennis, and the world-class Golden Door Spa.
With the base of Camelback Mountain as the backdrop, The Phoenician is another one of the premier resorts located just outside of Scottsdale. This luxury resort offers 27 holes of championship golf as well as tennis. In addition, the Centre for Well-Being offers personalized spa programs to suit any visitor.
These world-class resorts, which are self-contained “playgrounds” comprised of golf courses, swimming pools, health spas and restaurants, are located outside of Phoenix and have spectacular views of the mountains.
Hotels in Southern Arizona
Because the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is centrally located in downtown, many hotels can be found in a close proximity. Major national hotel chains can also be found in the downtown areas of nearby Tempe, Mesa, and Scottsdale, as well as Tucson.
The Hotel San Carlos was originally constructed in 1927 and was considered one of the most modern hotels of its era, being both the first high-rise and first fully air-conditioned hotel in the Southwest. It was built in an Italian Renaissance-style that befitted the elegance of its guests, some of the more famous including Clark Gable, Ingrid Bergman, Spencer Tracey, and Marilyn Monroe.
A Tucson landmark is the Historic Congress Hotel, built in 1919 and still full of Southwestern charm. For a good selection of national chains located in downtown Tucson, head to Oracle Road, Speedway Boulevard, and Stone Avenue.
Bed and Breakfasts (B&Bs) in Southern Arizona
Several of Tucson's Bed and Breakfasts are housed in adobe structures and equipped with southwestern furnishings. Phoenix also has a handful of B&Bs, some are located in the center of the city while others are located in quieter residential areas.

Dude ranches are another popular option. During the day, you can enjoy horseback-riding tours, hiking, and other activities that the ranch organizes for its guests. At night, you can relax by the fire, take a swim in the pool, or enjoy a leisurely meal. Prices are cheaper than Tucson resort hotels. Most guest ranches close during the summer.
