Air

Southern Arizona is served by several airports. The main airport servicing this region is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), which caters to over 40 national destinations and about 15 others in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. The Tucson International Airport (TUS) serves the Tucson metropolitan area and connects to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and Seattle.

By Car

I-10 is the major Interstate connecting the region to the rest of the U.S. I-10 begins in California, crosses through Southern Arizona, and then continues east through New Mexico, Texas and all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
I-8 heads west as well but ends further south in San Diego.

If you're driving down from the Grand Canyon area of northern Arizona, pick up I-17 in Flagstaff heading for Phoenix. If your starting point is in Mexico, take I-19 from the U.S. border town of Nogales to get to Tucson.

  • To San Diego, CA: Phoenix (350 miles, 6 hours) - Tucson (410 miles, 7 hours)
  • To Los Angeles, CA: Phoenix (370 miles, 6 hours) - Tucson (490 miles, 8 hours)
  • To Albuquerque, NM: Phoenix (465 miles, 7½ hours) - Tucson (500 miles, 8 hours)
  • Grand Canyon NP: Phoenix (230 miles, 4 hours) -Tucson (350 miles, 5½ hours)
  • Las Vegas, NV: Phoenix (300 miles, 6½ hours) -Tucson (400 miles, 8½ hours)

Bus

The Greyhound Lines bus company serves Phoenix and Tucson, as well as many smaller towns in the region.

Train

Amtrak has very limited service in the area, stopping in Maricopa, 30 miles south of Phoenix. The “Sunset Limited” line heads west to Los Angeles (8½ hours) and east to Houston (30 hours), New Orleans, and Orlando, only three times a week.
