Things to do / Travel Guide
If sailing or motor-boating in a lake surrounded by spectacular desert scenery is your idea of a great way to spend an afternoon, then southern Arizona has several options that you'll enjoy.
Pleasure Boating around Phoenix
Saguaro Lake, a 1,100-acre lake created by the Stewart Mountain Dam, is located about an hour northeast of Phoenix and it's a very popular spot to go boating. Precision Marine, located at the lake's marina, has ski and fishing boats for rent. Take a fishing boat, a pontoon, a paddle boat, or a tour of this beautiful lake surrounded by pristine nature and scenic mountains.
Lake Pleasant, located about 30 miles northwest of Phoenix in the Lake Pleasant Regional Park, has excellent conditions for sailing in its waters. In addition to small sailboats, ski boats are also available at the lake's marina. The “Desert Princess Cruise Ship” is another way to enjoy the lake's spectacular scrubby desert scenery.
East of Phoenix is the Superstition Wilderness and Canyon Lake, where “Dolly's Steamboat” will take you on either a 90-minute narrated nature cruise or a two-hour dinner cruise. The nature cruise will expose you to the wonders of the surrounding Tonto National Forest. Flora and fauna abound; don't be surprised to see wildflowers, cacti, big horn sheep, mountain lions, and golden eagles.
