Clouded leopards, red pandas, and dwarf zebus, are among the more than 50 animal species calling this zoo home. "Ruby" the Siberian tiger is the star of the show, but he's not the only exciting attraction. An open-air train running around the zoo's periphery gives access to red wolves and deer that aren't otherwise accessible by foot.

H. Cletus Broyles, President of the Civitan Club and then Roanoke City Engineer conceived Mill Mountain Children's Zoo in 1951. Designed as a children's zoo with a nursery rhyme theme, it opened its doors July 4,1952.
