Our Ski Specialist Says:

Ten years before the famous American Revolutionary War, a small but fiercely patriotic and exclusive resort was built, that has since hosted many famous guests, including some of the early Presidents of the United States and dignitaries from all over the nation. This resort is called The Homestead, and is located in Hot Springs, Virginia. Now, that same resort offers visitors a chance to step back into history, and experience true Southern hospitality while enjoying an exclusive ski area.

Visitors not staying at the resort are invited to come to The Homestead, however, preference is given to guests of the resort itself. 45 acres of terrain with an elevation of 3,200 feet, are blanketed with a mixture of Mother Nature's and Man's powder. Five chairlifts service the mountain's nine trails.

Professional European ski instructors are on staff to cater to teach you any desired wintersport skill. Ranging from ski and snowboard to children's academy, cross-country and even ice skating, lessons are available in private or group settings. The Homestead is open daily from 9am to 5pm throughout its mid-December to March season. Night skiing, however, is available only on holidays and special event weekends.

Snowboarders are serviced by a J-bar which scoops them up and transports them to The Homestead's terrain park and half pipe. Located 260 feet above the ground with a 20 foot wide pipe and 6 foot high walls, there's more than enough to keep any snowboarder busily happy doing tricks for hours on end.

There is a shuttle service available from all neighboring airports. This includes the airport at Roanoke, Virginia, located just 75 minutes from this luxury resort.

The Homestead's even better known for what it offers after your day on the slopes is through. There is an Olympic sized ice skating rink onsite, as well as a snowtubing park which includes two lanes, and is open from Thursday through Sunday. The kids can ditch Mom and Dad and hang out at the Kids club with its supervised activities especially designed for their entertainment. Don't miss the guided snowmobile or snowshoeing tours, which you may sign up for in the lobby, or forego the chance to experience a horse drawn sleigh ride! Try your hand at the 8 lane bowling alley, and go shopping at one of the 15 specialty stores onsite. This doesn't even include the grocery store available to stock up on small snacks. Feeling weary? No need to worry! There is a European-style spa onsite to soothe those sore muscles, an indoor heated pool, and a 270 seat theater to watch the latest releases on the big screen.

With a choice of over ten different eateries, some even requiring a coat and tie in the evenings, you can choose anything from quality 4 star dining to the causal pub with a pool table, dance floor, and big screen TV to relax in front of as you eat. Then, when your night is through, go back to whichever of the 483 guestrooms you've been placed in and, whether it's a regular room or one of the 88 suites, have a snack at the mini-bar, don a plush terry cloth robe on the way to a relaxing shower, or just enjoy the devastatingly beautiful mountain views from your window.

With all of this opulence only located 140 miles from Charleston, West Virginia, a mere 450 miles from New York City and 340 miles from Philadelphia, what are you waiting for? If luxury is your thing, The Homestead welcomes you with open arms - and valet parking to boot! So splurge and spoil yourself this winter, Experiencing History's never been this much fun!
