Our Ski Specialist Says:

Bryce Mountain is a small and all-inclusive ski resort with a 1,750 foot summit and eight trails with interesting names indicative of their skill levels such as "Little Nip," the "Bootlegger," and "Hangover" for those who want advanced thrills. Located in the Shenandoah Valley in West Virginia, about 2 hours from Washington, DC, Bryce Mountain is pure skiing. There is no terrain park and while snowboarders are allowed on all trails, a leash is required. Twenty five acres are open for riding and four lifts, including two for the beginner area, are open to accept riders of all kinds.

Bryce Mountain's ski school is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America, which means that its programs, both for adults and children, are top notch. Skiwee lessons start at age 4 ½ and continue up to 8 years old for both skiing and snowboarding in a safe, nurturing environment meant to teach and hone skills to last a lifetime. There are learn-to-ski and board lessons for adults, skill improvement workshops, and racing clinics for Nastar and USSA racing, all of which are housed at Bryce Mountain and going strong. Take a ride down for the thrill of it, or watch the race teams practice weekly.

The snow can sometimes be icy and hardpacked, so prepare your equipment by stopping by the onsite repair and tune up shops for a new waxing and edge sharpening to make it easier for you to carve clean lines into the mountain.

Lift tickets are sold in different blocks of time, ranging from all day to half day and twilight hours. Broken down by age demographics, there are passes for adults (12 years and up), juniors (6 to 12 years) and seniors (65+). There are also Military personnel and dependants' rates for those with proper identification. Children under 5 years of age, and seniors over the age of 70, ski free at Bryce.

At the end of the day, stay on site for a hubbub of activities. Lodging can be found on site with a range of condos, townhouses, and chalets, which are usually pet-friendly and come with their own kitchens. Some even have Jacuzzis or hot tubs along with their own fireplace. There is a community library you can escape to with a great cup of hot chocolate to read a good book while the snow falls outside the windows. Alternatively, you can head to one of the two restaurants and bars located within the lodge. Choose between Coleman's with its live music and fine dining and Braxton's with its lounge atmosphere and bar food selections. You may also choose to take the 2 hour drive into Washington, DC for a myriad of nightlife and additional lodging options.

Whether you're looking for a mountain escape with picturesque chalets and a roaring fire, or you just want to escape for the day onto white powdered slopes not too far from the city, Bryce Mountain is waiting for you.
