Two large snowboarding parks and lots of variable terrain spread out over 22 acres, with the backdrop of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, makes Appalachian Ski Resort a terrific place to plan a winter ski vacation. Only 7 miles from Boone, North Carolina, Appalachian Ski Resort caters to beginners and families, but is also challenging and professional enough for advanced skier to play as well. Throw in the delicious après ski activities, and there's no room left for disappointment.
Snow flies and settles on the ten trails and five chairlifts from mid-November to the end of March. Open from 9am to 10pm, all trails and terrain parks are fully lit for night skiing. Carve down the 4,000 foot summit, and cruise down the half mile trail on "Orchard Run" for a full day of riding. Beginners and intermediate riders will have fun, and a productive day of learning, but advanced riders looking to master more difficult terrain may be a bit bored after a few good runs.
Snowboarders are invited to shred the AppalJack and AppalJam parks which have their own quad chairlift and thumping sound system. Plenty of rails, funboxes, slides, and stairways, as well as the wall ride, make these terrain parks the place to be this winter!
Lessons are given by the famous French-Swiss Ski College which has taught skiing to over a million people from Special Olympians, to the Green Berets, US Marines, and even Secret Service Agents, right on down to deep Southerners who had never even seen snow before they came to Appalachian Ski Resort! There is a special Skiwee program, specially developed for kids of ages 4 to 10 where, for two hours at a time, the lift ticket, equipment, and lesson are part of a single package. Adults, and children over the age of 6, can choose from group, private, and "Ultimate Private" lessons. In the "Ultimate Private" lessons" students get a professional ski evaluation done, and then plan three individualized lessons with their instructor who then guides them through the planned material. How is that for dedication to learning?!
Students and Military personnel who provide proper ID are entitled to discounts on all lift passes. There are adult, junior (12 and under), and senior (60 and up) rates. Ticket prices are based on the part of the season and time of day that they are bought. This can vary between early, regular, and late seasons, with the regular season being from December 15 – March 9. There are also day (9am -4pm), super day (6pm to 10pm), half day, Sunday Morning, twilight, night, and multi-day sessions!
Over 2650 items of rental equipment are available to riders, from skis to skiblades, and all the snowboards in between. You may also rent ice skates or hockey skates to use at Appalachian Ski Resort's 6,000 square foot Ice Arena. Skaters may buy two hour blocks of time, or combine them for the day. There is also a full service certified nursery on site, open from 8:30am-4pm and, if buying a full day, a nutritious lunch will be included.
Appalachian Ski Resort was built with an authentic Bavarian-style chalet feel. 46,000 square feet of smoke-free seating is available to you when you're ready to come in from the cold. Check out the views from the observation deck, warm up by the stone fireplace, check the internet on the free wi-fi connection, or just relax in the TV room or arcade. To top it off, take care of those snowy wet clothes with the clothes dryer conveniently located inside!
The towns of Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina, serve as the base camp for this ski area. With over 100 choices of restaurants of all flavors and sizes, no one will go hungry. Check out the vegetarian and juice bar or the mouthwatering BBQ slow cooked. Savor the Japanese, Italian, or Greek delicacies, if Appalachian's food courts don't satisfy you first. Visitors will also find the standard national fast food chains such as McDonald's, Long John Silver's, and Arby's, just to name a few.
When it comes time to get some shut-eye, Appalachian Resort offers four rental chalets, each with a different personality and housing setup. Less than 1 mile from the lodge, at the base of the ski mountain, ski-and-stay packages are available. They are all non-smoking and equipped with fireplaces, laundry facilities, and kitchens, and even kitchenware is provided. An advanced deposit is required, and Appalachian Resort will only rent to families, married couples, or groups of adults over the age of 25, to keep these chalets in tip top condition. There are also 30 RV and Motorhome hookups available. Less than 20 minutes away, there are also varied lodging options in Boone or the surrounding towns, including everything from quality inns and log cabins, to motels, B&Bs, and motels.
Check out the many pubs and taverns which host live music, karaoke, and relaxed atmospheres to while the night away. Also check out the Boone Mall, bowling alleys, and cinemas, treat yourself to massages and other pampering treatments at the spa, explore natural local caverns, or even catch a play at the local playhouse!
With so much going on, Appalachian Ski Resort comes out tops in more than just elevation! Bring yourself or bring the whole gang, but don't pass up all that Appalachian has to offer this winter.
