Our Nature Nut Says:

One of the last virgin forests in the Appalachian highlands, Cathedral State Park is a nature lover's dream. With trees up to 90 feet tall and 21 feet in circumference, Cathedral is home to trees which illustrate the natural history of the U.S., and is the only mixed timber forest in West Virginia today. Originally private land, today Cathedral is considered a National Historic Landmark and is recognized by the society of American Foresters in their National Natural areas program. The mountainous and sometimes hilly region is home to many types of wildflowers in addition to trees, and visitors can enjoy hikes through the woods and even a picnic amongst the towering forest. Better yet, park-goers can simply sit back and relax and ponder the majestic natural beauty of Cathedral State Park.

From Twin Falls State Park - West Virginia:

Cathedral State Park is an ancient hemlock forest of majestic proportions, and one of the last living commemorations of the vast virgin hemlock forest which once flourished in the Appalachian highlands. Trees up to 90 feet in height and 21 feet in circumference form cloisters in the park. Throughout the woods, eastern hemlock is the dominant species.
