This Landmark District is known for its deep historical roots, stately manor houses, plantations, mansions, and other similar structures. Rural farmhouses, barns, large open fields, and gently rolling landscape contribute to the District's scenic beauty. Boswell's Tavern, which once welcomed such visitors as Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and James Madison, is also located in the historical district. Although it is now a private residence, public tours are available. The Loudoun County town of Waterford is a significant National Historic Landmark worth visiting, as are the battlefield parks and several other area villages.
