Our Wine Tasting Expert Says:
A good example of a winery offering the Southern-style wines is Feliciana Cellars Winery. The premises are in a Spanish Mission-style edifice, and the two vineyards are just a few miles down the road. The wines are mostly from the Muscadine grape, such as Dry Carlos, a dry white with aromas of apple. Other nearly-indigenous varieties used in the winery are Blanc du Bois and Norton Cynthiana.
From Feliciana Cellars Winery - Jackson, Louisiana:
Feliciana Cellars today produces 10 different types of wines, and also features special occasion wines from time to time. The sparkling wine, Esperanza, has received rave reviews and a limited amount of this product is available each year in December. The winery produces some 4,000 cases each year, making it the largest in Louisiana. All of the fruit is grown locally in our two vineyards, one of Highway 10 and another on Highway 68, just a few miles from the winery.
