Our Tourist Attractions Expert Says:
Many people could not place Mobile on a map of Alabama, and that is too bad since the city of Mobile has what real estate people call "location, location and location". It is Alabama's only saltwater port. It is located less than an hours drive from some of the best beaches on the Gulf Coast. Mobile is close enough to New Orleans for a day trip or even for a night out (as long as you are willing to shoot down I-10 for a bit over two hours to get home – kind of like driving into Manhattan for a show). And Mardi Gras? Mobile is home to the oldest Mardi Gras celebration in the U.S. Before we get to the best places to see in Mobile, Alabama, lets focus on the food. Seafood, from Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, to be precise. Cajun to be more precise.
One of the most popular sites to see in Mobile, AL is the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. While just a tour of this famous vessel, which participated in wars from World War II through the Gulf War. The site includes aircraft, tanks and a World War II –era submarine. In short, everything you need for a war. If military might is not your thing (though there is not a kid in existence that is not impressed by a fully loaded battleship), you can grab a mint julep and explore this very southern city and the elegant southern way of life. Dig further back into history and seek out remnants of the French and Spanish days.
