Things to do / Travel Guide
The Gulf Coast is notoriously foggy during the winter, as a thick layer of fog commonly blankets the areas from the coastline inland in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. In addition to the fog, there are long stretches of mild to warm weather between light rainfalls. Spring in this region features warm and pleasant temperatures with mainly dry, sunny weather. Hot, humid, and muggy weather during the summer causes heavy, daily thunderstorms. Hurricanes and tropical storms are watched very closely from June-October. Warm, humid weather continues into fall, along with the potential for tropical storms and hurricanes.
Though many visitors come to the region for Mardi Gras in February, weather-wise it's best to visit New Orleans and the other cities in the region in the spring. It is then that the sunny, warm weather is not yet accompanied by stifling humidity or the potential for tropical storms or hurricanes.
