Outdoor Recreation around New Orleans and the Louisiana Bayou
The outdoors-lover's highlight in Louisiana is definitely some time in the swampland of the Cajun Wetlands. Birdwatchers will spots herons and egrets among the hardwoods and cypress wetland forests of the bayou. Using Lafayette, Louisiana as a base, combine hiking, fishing and canoeing in the Cajun Wetlands. Cypress Island Preserve is a good place for a hike and for getting out on the water. Expect to see lots of alligators. Serious outdoors types will consider expedition deep into the swamps and bayous.
Outdoor Recreation on the Alabama Gulf Coast Beaches
The white sand beaches of Alabama's Gulf Coast are rated as some of the best in the country. Gulf State Park has hiking and biking trails through the sand dunes and along the lake. Trails extending into Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama have excellent wildlife viewing, as well.
