Family Travel in New Orleans and the Louisiana Bayou
Its pretty safe to say that a family vacation to New Orleans will be very different than last years vacation. Don't let the city's image keep you from bringing the kids. The city is home to the Audubon Aquarium and the Audubon Zoo, both recovered from Katrina. Older kids might be interested in seeing that parts of the city that has not yet recovered to understand the severity of the hurricane. The organized bus tours might be a bit long, consider having a cab driver show you around. They seem to do that quite often.
A family vacation in Louisiana should definitely include some time soaking up the culture and seeing the wildlife of the bayou. Lafayette, Louisiana is a good base in the Cajun Wetlands. Combine hiking with canoeing through the swamps at Cypress Island Preserve. Expect to see herons, egrets, alligators and more.
