Things to do / Travel Guide
The Gulf Coast of Louisiana and Mississippi represents one of the main gambling hubs in the United States. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, some casinos in the region emerged relatively unscathed, while others have undergone tremendous reconstruction and renovation projects. The overwhelming majority of the region's casinos are housed inside barges permanently docked along the Gulf Coast, near cities like Biloxi and Gulfport, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana, and are open 24/7. Other casinos are located inside famed riverboats that float on the Mississippi River. Among the games offered to gamblers 21 and over are slots, video poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, and others, depending on the particular casino.
