Our Tourist Attractions Expert Says:
Before we head out to the white sand beaches and dunes in Texas's famous spring break destination, lets clarify some geographic and spring break points. South Padre Island stretches all the way down the coast of Texas from Corpus Christie to very close to the Mexican border at Brazos Island. One hundred and thirty miles down, at the southern tip of Padre Island is the town of South Padre Island, of spring break fame. More on that later. It turns out that Padre Island was split by a man-made shipping channel dividing Padre Island into what is sometimes called North Padre Island and South Padre Island. If you are looking for place to visit in South Padre Island, TX don't confuse the two. The big chunk of island is wild and undeveloped and only when you get to the town of South Padre Island do you find the resort development, which is wild in a different way.
South Padre Island is the number one spring break destination in the United States, at least right now. Spring breakers will know what to do with their time in South Padre Island, but lets discuss a few of the place of interest South Padre Island. The white sand beaches, some of the best on the Gulf Coast. The fishing in the bay or deep offshore, for the whole family or for the serious sportsmen (and women, of course). The dining and nightlife has something to offer for all ages and all types. Even New York bagels are available, though we would not suggest you mention this to anyone in NY. Horseback riding, surfing, kayaking and hiking are just some of the ways to spend the day in the sun and surf of South Padre Island.
