Our Tourist Attractions Expert Says:
Feast away on Spanish and Central European fusion food all hot summer long in the rolling and rugged hills of Central Texas. Named "the No. 1 vacation spot in the nation" in 2008 by the New York Times, Texas Hill Country blends the small town experience with outdoor fun and lots of little luxuries in between.
Neighboring two major metropolitan areas of Central Texas, Texas Hill Country is a true hidden Lone Star treasure. Whether visiting during the summer, when nighttime temperatures stay high, or the winter when temperatures are sometimes as much as ten degrees cooler than eastern Texas, you'll find there's ample fun to be had here. Spend the morning exploring the rolling hills by bicycle or how about a lazy afternoon in a tube taking in the waterways? Texas Hill Country boasts awesome restaurants with a mixture of flavors—Spanish, German, Swiss, Austrian, and Czech cuisines--which you can dine on outside on one of the many restaurant decks. You'll also feel the world fusion in the beer, architecture and music, definitely uniquely "Texan." While here, cool off in one of the caves, such as Inner Space Caverns and Natural Bridge Caverns and then hit one of the quaint roadside stands for a seasonal fruit snack, like the juicy peaches from Fredericksburg and crunchy Medina apples. FYI: Texas Hill Country is also flowing with over 20 wineries, which have all helped make Texas one of the top grape and wine producers in the country, so don't forget to raise a glass!
