Our Sports Superfan Says:
Sam Houston Race Park is the first Class 1 race track in Texas, and one of the fastest growing race tracks in the country. The track holds two meets, with thoroughbreds raced here from November to March, and quarter horses from June to September.
The track opened in 1994, and can hold up to 25,000 fans. Live racing is generally Thursday-Sunday during the two meets, with post time at 7 p.m. On other days, like New Year's Eve and July 4th, there are special musical performances and fireworks shows. Sam Houston Park's biggest races are the Breeder's Cup Turf Festival, on the last day of spring racing, and Texas Champion's Day, in September. There is also simulcasting from around the country every day of the year.
Sam Houston Race Park is located in the northwest part of Houston, between Beltway 8 and Interstate 45.
