Celebrate the history and the spirit of the Lone Star State! Enjoy three floors of interactive exhibits, exciting temporary exhibitions and the special-effects of the Texas Spirit Theater as you immerse yourself in "The Story of Texas!"
Visitors to the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum will be greeted warmly by a 35-foot-tall bronze Lone Star sculpture in front of the museum, along with a classic campfire scene with themes from Texas' past. This museum is about Texas and the museum's size matches it, as do the original Goddess of Liberty from the top of the State Capitol, the 1/3 scale model of the Lunar module, the full-sized windmill, and circa 1940 AT-6 "Texan" airplane, which are housed inside.
Visitors will love exhibits and artifacts such as Neil Armstrong's space suit along with the unbelievable technology of the Texas Spirit Theater's feature presentation, "The Star of Destiny," which lets you experience the 1900 Galveston Hurricane and see a gusher explode from an East Texas oil derrick. The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum is also home to the only Austin IMAX theatre which the whole family will enjoy, along with the Story of Texas Cafe which offers fresh salads and made-to-order burgers. Plan to spend at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours at the museum.
The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum is located at 1800 N. Congress Avenue at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in downtown Austin, Texas. With close proximity to Interstate Highway 35 and MoPAC Expressway (Loop 1), the museum is easy to access.
