Come and explore the San Antonio Museum of Art, a treat for locals and tourists alike, with its rich array of exhibits and programming.
The San Antonio Museum of Art features an international collection, as well as an exhibit of art related to the city itself. In addition to its exhibits, the museum regularly hosts workshops and film screenings as part of its special programs. Since its founding in the 1920s, the San Antonio Museum of Art has emphasized the art of the Americas, including pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial and Latin American folk art. 18th, 19th and 20th century American and European paintings, photography, sculpture and decorative arts are also featured at the museum. In 1985, the Museum received the unparalleled collections of Latin American Folk Art compiled by former Vice President Nelson A. Rockefeller and Robert K. Winn, and this addition established the museum at the forefront of American institutions collecting in this area. If you think the great masters of the arts only lived in France or the Far East, think again, because this museum houses some remarkable works of art.
Equally as interesting as the museum, is the building that houses it. In 1988, the several separate buildings of the 1904 Lone Star Brewery were gutted, connected and polished into the building as it stands today.
