Things to do / Travel Guide
Looking for a classic American weekend at the beach, complete with miniature golf, boogie boards, and souvenirs? Then look no further than Stewart Beach on Galveston Island. Filled with families relaxing under rented umbrellas, both kids and their folks can enjoy riding the waves on boogie boards while lifeguards keep a watchful eye. The beach is filled with interesting events from live bands and volleyball matches to corporate testing of new soft drinks or toys for the sunning crowd to try out. When you need a break from the sand, take the kiddos to burn some energy at the playground or better yet, check out the walking human maze. Then the whole family can enjoy a game of miniature golf or cool off at the water slide. Stewart Beach also sponsors family-oriented events throughout the summer, such as sandcastle competitions, making this an even better spot to choose for family getaways. Be sure to remember to bring extra cash for the water slide, human maze and miniature golf for the kids, who will definitely want to try their hands at all of them, over and over again! And when you're ready to grub after a long day in the sun and surf, the pavilion offers fast food, plus its got restrooms and outdoor showers. Parking costs about $7 and since the cars are packed pretty tightly in the lot, it can take some time to get out on a crowded day. You're going to have a great time at Stewart Beach!
