Mcgee Beach - Corpus Christi, Texas

Address:Corpus Christi, Texas

Our Beach Bum Says:

Among the beaches in the United States that are smack in the middle of big urban areas, McGee Beach in Corpus Christi stands out as a very family friendly beach. The beach is located right in the middle of downtown, near the major hotels and along the Corpus Christi Seawall at Shoreline Boulevard. Many visitors to Corpus Christi head out of town to the beaches of North Padre Island, but the city beaches of Corpus Christi have a lot to offer, especially for families.

The location on the bay and the nearby breakwater guarantee calm water, perfect for swimming. Kids more interested in surfing or boogie boards may find the water a bit tame and might want to head out of town. The area is relatively free of seaweed (but not always free of jellyfish), and the fish love hanging out near the pier, unbeknownst to them that we are recommending McGee Beach as a nice fishing spot.

Kids and their parents interested in grabbing an ice cream cone of a full meal will be happy to know that there are restaurants and snack stands right on McGee Beach. Park on Shoreline Drive and you are right there. If you are looking for a slightly less urban beach experience, but still close to your Corpus Christi hotel, head north over the Harbor Bridge to Corpus Christi Beach, voted one of the best urban beaches in the United States, by non other than Dr. Beach.
