Things to do / Travel Guide
Southeast Texas can be a fun place to shop, especially if you are in the mood for antiques. Some places are known for their offerings for tourists. Nearly every town in Texas has a local flea market and farmer's market. These are great places to buy handicrafts, and wares like homemade honey, fresh produce, and candies. There are some places that stand out and should be seen.
Centrepoint Station
San Marcos, along I-35 between Austin and San Antonio, is known for its outlet malls. However, nearby Centrepoint Station is a much more interesting place for the traveler to shop at. Centrepoint Station is a fun place to take a family and spend half a day. It features an old-home Texas theme, selling gourmet Texas foods, collectibles, and old country antiques like working iceboxes and phonographs. The place is crammed full of vintage signs, neat jewelry, and Americana kick knacks to gawk at.
Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg is a shopping mecca for tourists. Besides the scenery and bed and breakfast establishments (B&Bs), everyone loves shopping in the historical downtown area. Here you can find quirky boutiques, pet stores, baby stores, and Texas-themed gift shops that aren't too touristy or kitschy. Of course, Fredericksburg is best known for its antique stores. There are good used book stores here as well. If it can be collected, it's probably found in Fredericksburg. Long before the tourists came to this popular little hamlet, the German-speaking founders established some of the finest feed stores in the state. Today, people come from all over the state to buy wildflower seeds.
