Experience the whitewater of the Chitina River. Shoot the 180 miles of Class I-III rapids. Visit the abandoned Kennecott copper mine and the ghost town of McCarthy before setting of to a multi-day wilderness adventure. These sections, Kennecott, Nizina and Chitina rivers to Chitina and Chitina to Flagg Point on the Copper River, are located in southeast Alaska, east of Valdez, 50 miles from the Canadian border.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from June to September, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from 6 days to 12 days. Popular trips include the 70 mile Chitina section, and the 110 mile Copper section. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and oar rafts.

Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips. Outfitters on the Chitina River offer trips suitable for families.
