Our Nature Nut Says:

This remote but extraordinary National Park and preserve has a lot to offer. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1979, the park is famous for its countless giant peaks and snow-capped glaciers, Bagley Icefield, Kennecott Copper Mine (a National Historic Landmark), at least 8,000 years of human history, and some of the most spectacular wilderness of any park in the entire National Parks system. Mt. St. Elias tops out at an impressive 18,008 feet.
A drive along Nasbena Road will give you an out-of-this-world view of the Alaskan backcountry and may reward you with a bear, moose, or Dall sheep sighting. A fun and exciting way to see the park is by flightseeing. There are various local charter aircraft available to give you a surreal aerial tour of the park. Whether you're rafting or kayaking down the rustic Copper or Chitina Rivers, mountaineering the steep rock walls of St. Elias, or traveling the park on an ATV or snowmobile, you will not soon forget the vast beauty of Wrangell-St. Elias.

The Chugach, Wrangell, and St. Elias mountain ranges converge here in what is often referred to as the "mountain kingdom of North America." The largest unit of the National Park System and a day's drive east of Anchorage, this spectacular park includes the continent's largest assemblage of glaciers and the greatest collection of peaks above 16,000 feet.
