Things to do / Travel Guide
Southeast Alaska and the Yukon exhibit a dry, cold continental climate. The region benefits greatly from the warm Japanese current, which causes the weather to be milder than the norm for such a high latitude. Nonetheless, freezing temperatures are possible year round. Generally speaking, if you're going to visit this region, bring a lot of warm clothing with you and be prepared for unpredictable weather conditions. This is not to say that one day you'll wake up and feel sweltering heat and humidity. On the contrary, some days can be rather mild and pleasant, while others can be downright freezing, snowy, and windy. Despite the unpredictability of the weather, the best time to come is during the summer months, when the mercury rises a bit.
