Our Ski Specialist Says:

Deer Mountain awaits its visitors with a snow packed, family oriented ski area. With over 150 inches of snowfall a year, and miles and miles of runs, all snow bunnies are sure to have a great time here, however young, or young at heart, they are.

With 45 trails and 3 lifts (including 1 chair lift and 2 surface lifts), the experience necessary to ski these trails varies on each and every trail. Novice skiers flock to the beginners' area where they can practice their snowplow until they are ready to try a little something more. A little more advanced? Don't worry, Deer Mountain's 850 feet of vertical drop ensures there'll be a thrill for the more advanced skiers.

Deer Mountain is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00pm, but make sure to check in advance (particularly on their website) as times tends to change. They even have night skiing on some weekends. Their website also has great information regarding discounts for specific days. This is in addition to their already reasonably priced tickets, which include reduced rates for multi-day passes, students, and seniors.

One of Deer Mountain's unique features is its snow skate park. It is actually the only resort in South Dakota that has a skate park. Access to the park is only for those with snow skates, and offers a series of boxes, rails, and tracks for riders to practice their balancing act while performing tricks. Those without their own snow skate board, looking to try something new, can rent a snow skate board from the rental shop. Another fun slope activity here is snow tubing, which is sure to get your adrenaline flowing.

If you're looking for some on the slopes relaxation, make sure to check out the day lodge and food court. The base lodge has a wraparound deck so you can catch some rays while keeping warm in the sun. Another nice thing to do on your break is to go check out the Poma Bar, where you can watch your favorite sporting event on their big screen TV, while sipping a glass of wine, a beer, or a hot chocolate.

Deer Mountain is located just minutes from the towns of Deadwood and Lead. Both of these towns have plenty to offer in the way of dining, night life, and lodging options.
