Things to do / Travel Guide
There are 80 gambling halls in the town of Deadwood, South Dakota. The casinos in Deadwood give the visitor a Frontier-type feeling, as all structures must adhere to the 1880s-style architecture. In Deadwood you can play cards just like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane did in the years after the region's 1876 gold rush. Slots, blackjack, poker, Let It Ride, Three-Card Poker, video poker, and Caribbean Stud Poker are all available in the city's various casinos. Some of the larger casinos in the city are open 24/7, but most operate on more limited schedules, closing for a few early-morning hours. Though you must be at least 21 years old to actually gamble, South Dakota is known for its leniency regarding minors in that they can stroll freely about the gaming floor and even stand next to their parents while they gamble.
