Adventure Travel in the South Dakota Badlands
Although driving and hiking around the South Dakota Badlands may be adventurous enough, hot air ballooning over the area will provide a unique perspective, as will balloon trips over the Black Hills. While short hiking trails give visitors to the Badlands a good taste of the unusual features of the area, those interested in more of an adventure vacation will venture into the Sage Creek Wilderness Area of Badlands National Park for a chance to view wildlife and rock formations in the prairie land.
Rock Climbing in the Black Hills of South Dakota
Some of the best rock climbing areas in the country are in the Black Hills, from Spearfish Canyon near Spearfish, in the north to the Needles in Custer State Park. There is also a climbing area in Mount Rushmore National Park. Truly adventurous folks will show up in Spearfish Canyon for some winter ice climbing.
