Venture down the whitewater of the Merced River. Experience the 24 miles of Class III-IV rapids, see abandoned gold mines as the river flows next to the old Yosemite railroad. These sections, Cranberry Gulch to McCabe Flat and McCabe Flat to Bagby, pass through Yosemite National Park, and are located in central California, north east of Mariposa, on Route 140.
Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from April to July, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from 1 day to 2 days. Popular trips include the 15 mile Upper section, and the 9 mile Lower section. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and oar rafts. Portage may be required.
Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips, and whitewater experience is recommended.
Expect to See: Bears, eagles, and osprey in an environment of canyons, and mountains and some abandoned gold mines.
