Expert White Water Rafting Review

Shoot the whitewater rapids of the American River's Middle Fork. Challenge the 26 miles of Class II-IV rapids, including Tunnel Chute Rapids, a fast, steep, 15 foot wide chute that leads to a 30 yard granite tunnel. This section, Oxbow to Mammoth Bar, passes through Auburn State Recreation Area and is located in Placer County, east of Meadow Vista, 7 miles from I-80.

Practical Info: Rafting season is open approximately from May to September, with whitewater rafting trips ranging in length from a day trip up to 2 days. The river is suitable for paddle rafts, and oar rafts. Portage may be required.

Useful Tips: Guides are optional, although permits may be required for private trips. Outfitters on the American River's Middle Fork offer trips suitable for families.

Expect to See: Eagles, black bears, otters, and deer in a wilderness environment including beaches, waterfalls and side creeks.
