Our Ski Specialist Says:

Soda Springs is the type of resort you'll want to take your kids to on their first or even hundredth time skiing or boarding. Located in Lake Tahoe, just 40 miles from Reno and 170 miles from San Francisco, this resort is dedicated to the family experience.

The site's 652 foot vertical drop and elevation of 7,325 feet, guarantees smaller and gentler terrain to glide down. There are 4 lifts which include 2 rope tows servicing the 8 runs which offer a range of skiing difficulty levels. Soda Springs back diamond runs however, are what would be considered an intermediate run at a larger resort such as Mammoth or Tahoe. This resort is geared towards little ones and beginners, so plan accordingly.

The resort is open from 10am to 4pm. It features a snow tubing park, as well as a Planet Kids that accommodates those under 42" with a tubing carrousel, moving carpet, and even mini-snowmobiles! Rentals are included with entrance to Planet Kids. Also for kids are the mini-X park which serves up small jumps and banks just the right size for your little riders!

For those of you, who crave something larger, head over to the regular terrain for fun boxes and big air. Snowboards are allowed on all trails and are available from the shop for adults. Leashes are required for all snowboarding. Lessons are available in groups, privately, or in package deals for beginners. All trails lead back to the lifts making it convenient to ski all day long. The wide open lanes are perfect for beginners, families, and groups. Keep in mind though that it will remain unchallenging for experienced riders. Once you're done, or during a break, head into the day lodge and get some munchies to keep the energy up.

At the end of the day, head into Lake Tahoe's village for a myriad of lodging options which include recognizable names such as Parkside Inn and Best Western. Après activities include the casinos at Lake Tahoe and the delicious restaurants and bars in Incline Village. Whether it's cozy lodges or swanky lounges, your big and little feet will enjoy their much needed rest.

From Soda Springs Ski Resort - Reno, California:

Soda Springs, celebrating it's 68th year, attracted early day adventurers outfitted in laced leather boots with wooden skis. Soda Springs was a popular destination accessed primarily by train. Much has changed since those early days. Chairlifts have replaced tows and travel is convenient on multi-lane Interstate 80. Modernization hasn't effected tradition, however. The welcoming small resort spirit and relaxed atmosphere of days past can still be discovered at Soda Springs.
