Our Ski Specialist Says:

Only 25 miles from Reno, and the closest resort to the Reno/Tahoe International airport, lays the Rose Mountain Ski Resort, which is aptly named for all that this resort offers. Boasting an elevation of 8,260 feet and a vertical drop of 1,800 feet, the panoramic view of Lake Tahoe and Nevada alone make this a worthwhile trip.

1200 acres of Nevada powder blankets the 60 plus trails. They are serviced by 8 lifts, including 2 six-seater detachable high speed lifts. The average snowfall is 400 inches and snowmaking only counts for 28% of the coverage. Rise early, get on the Zephyr chairlift at 830am, and ski the whole mountain till 4pm. There is no night skiing here, so take advantage of the sunshine and ride till the sun sets. The trails here offer a range of skiing difficulty levels, with slopes available for everyone from beginner to expert. Mogul runs are available, and trails are groomed nightly by the resort with their fleet of never-ending Sno-Cats.

For those of you looking for an exhilarating challenge, head into the Chutes. 16 gates enter into these 40 to 55 degree pitched trails that are aptly named with such monikers as "Nightmare" and "Cardiac Ridge." Beginners will feel confident on the easy and smooth runs of "North Run" and "Galina." Snowboarders will revel in the "Badlands" and "Double Downs" terrain parks which are located in the "Slide Bowl" that also accommodates intermediate level skiers. Snowboarders have access to all the trails as well.

Rates are available for full or half day sessions, with children under the age of 5 and seniors over age 75 skiing free during midweek, excluding holidays. Groups of 20+ receive a continental breakfast and après ski events when available; you must notify and book in advance for these options. There are also student days and ladies day discounts, the "Runs and Roses" package for 2 adults and 2 kids, and military discounts. Military personnel must make voucher arrangements through the MWR/ITT offices beforehand in order for them to be honored at Rose Mountain.

Lessons for all ages are taught by certified instructors. Rentals with top name brands such as Buzzard, Salomon, K2, Vans, Ride, and Switch are all ready to be ridden. Shaped skis, snowblades, and snowboards with step in bindings are available for daily or multi-day rentals. A daily ski check is free and for a nominal fee, you may leave your equipment overnight.

Over seven options are on site for when your hunger sets in, including a taco bar and happy hour, BBQ pits, espresso cafes, or fast food at the Pit Stop. Shuttles are available either by purchasing a lift and ride package which includes your lift pass, or by roundtrip transportation only. Leaving from a choice of 5 hotels, such as the Grand Hilton, the Sands and Atlantis, in Reno, the 1st tracks bus leaves at 9am or the midmorning shuttle leaves by 11am. Walk-ons are served on a first come first served basis.

When your weary legs are telling you to turn in for the day, 17,000+ rooms are available in lodging in Reno in hotels, motels and budget inns. There is ample nightlife, replete with casinos, nightclubs, bars and all night buffets.

Riding all day and Reno at night? Sounds like a winner to me.
