Situated over 300 miles from both the Bay Area and Los Angeles and outside the Reno city limits is a relaxed and leisurely paced ski resort where you'll discover June Mountain. Open from 830am to 4pm, riders will feel as if they have the whole mountain to themselves with the small to non-existent crowds.
There are 35 named trails spanning a range of difficulty, and numerous backcountry trails to explore. Seven lifts are open to service the 500 plus skiable acres during the December to April season. June's vertical drop is 2590 feet and its summit's elevation is a whopping 10,090 feet. With an average snowfall of 250 inches, snow is never hard to find or make fresh tracks in. There are steep chutes and terrain parks for the advanced riders, rolling trails for the intermediates and wide open runs for those who are just starting out. All trails lead to the main lodge where you can stop in for a quick bite and drink or just to rest your weary legs.
Tickets are available for single or multiple days. There is separate pricing for adult, young adult (19-23), teen (13-18), child, or senior (65-79) patrons. If you are taking lessons it is advisable to arrive 1.5 hours ahead of time to allow ample time for visiting the rental shop and purchasing lift tickets. Lessons are available for skiing, snowboarding, carving, and pipe clinics.
Rentals are standard or Demo equipment, and can be acquired as a package or by individual piece. A deposit is required on all rentals. There is a 40% discount for seniors over 65 and children under 12. Also check out Ernie's Tackle Shop in June Lake Village for rentals which may not require a deposit as large as on site.
June Meadow's Chalet offers cafeteria-style dining and sundeck and outdoor grilling. It is also the location of the "World Famous" Antler's bar which serves up cold beer on tap and great mixed cocktails. Check out Stew Pot Slim's, located by the terrain park, for a simple deli menu which includes beer or wine. However, credit cards are not accepted at Stew Pot's, so have cash on hand.
Less than 4 miles away is June Lake Village which houses the Big Rock Resort, Boulder Lodge. Big Rock offers 1 – 3 bedroom cabins, furnished with a fireplace and kitchen, while Boulder has suites, apartments and motel style rooms with an indoor swimming pool, hot tub/sauna, and a game room for the kids and those young at heart. There is also Double Eagle Resort and Spa which was ranked "One of the Best Spas in the World" by Forbes. There are over 12 other accommodation choices within a 5 mile radius if these do not appeal to you.
So if you want a serene and relaxed atmosphere for your trip, take a short drive (only twenty miles North of Mammoth Lakes!), head out to June Mountain and see what they have to offer.
