Engage in a unique art experience at the oldest cultural institution in Nevada! From nuclear and military landscapes to desert trails, the Nevada Museum of Art is diverse enough to please the pickiest of art lovers!
The Nevada Museum of Art is housed in new and distinctive headquarters downtown, a four-level structure inspired by the state's Black Rock Desert and a work of art in its own right. The museum's permanent collection of twentieth and twenty-first century art is divided into five focus collections that center on the aesthetic articulation of our land and environment. The Altered Landscape, the largest and newest focus collection, features nearly 600 pieces of contemporary landscape photographs by over 50 artists. Much of the Altered Landscape imagery focuses on topography of the new West, including nuclear and military landscapes, mining sites, housing developments, dams, and desert trails. The Historical Collection includes paintings, works on paper and sculpture dating from 1900 to 1945, with works by Stuart Davis, Maynard Dixon, and Charlie Dye, as well as regional artists including Lorenzo Latimer, Robert Caples and Craig Sheppard. In addition to the permanent collections, the Nevada Museum of Art houses traveling exhibitions throughout the year.
Visitors can enjoy the Museum Store and dining at Café Musée as well as a variety of docent-guided tours suitable for the whole family. With 13,482 square feet of gallery space for major exhibitions, a 180-seat multimedia theater for presentations, recitals, and films, and street-level and rooftop sculpture galleries, the museum promises an experience to be enjoyed by all!
To get to the Nevada Museum of Art, take Interstate 80 to the Virginia Street exit and drive south, down Virginia Street to Liberty Street. Drive west on Liberty Street to the corner of Liberty and Hill Streets. The Nevada Museum of Art is at 160 W. Liberty Street.
