Our Ski Specialist Says:

As the oldest ski resort in the Pacific Northwest, and the first ski area on Mt. Hood in 1927, Summit is a small, but very friendly, six sloped mountain with a season running from November to April. The 4,300 foot summit is nothing to scoff at, and Summit is a beginner's paradise, as over 75% of its trails are rated at easy terrain level. Cross-country skiers also have a choice of 70 trails spread out over 15km, and there are many snowshoeing paths to be found around the perimeter. With two snow tubing areas, Summit Ski Area is a full service winter recreation facility.

Hours at Summit run daily from 9am to 4pm, with two chairlifts servicing the six slopes. There is a free, timed race course where you can go at it neck and neck with other guests or the people in your group to see how you'd measure up against the US National race team. A small terrain park with jumps, rails, and a halfpipe is set up for snowboarders and freestyle skiers alike.

Summit Ski Area's ski school offers a learn-to-ski or snowboard lesson for around $10 with purchase of a lift ticket, making it easy and almost too affordable not to take one. Groups of more than 10 people receive free group lessons. Students must be at least 6 years old in order to participate in any lessons given by the ski school.

Children under the age of 5 ski or ride free with a paying adult, and there are full or half day tickets which start at 1pm daily available. Rates are for adults 13 years of age and up, juniors, and seniors over the age of 60. Snowboards, alpine or cross country skis, snowshoes, and pull sleds are available for rental. A deposit of around $300 in cash or on a major credit card is required to rent snowboards.

There is a small day lodge located on site with quick bites to eat that serves up quick fix snacks such as hamburgers, hotdogs, sandwiches, soups, and salads. However, for a wider selection of restaurants, après ski events, and lodging, visitors to Summit Ski Area head into Portland, located just 54 miles away. There, guests will find a restaurant to satisfy any want or desire, live music, thumping bars, relaxing pubs, and a bevy of lodging options, from private rentals to top of the line hotels.

Ski through history and design your own history at the same time when taking a trip to Summit Ski area this winter. If Summit's survived since 1927, someone there must be doing something right. Why not discover for yourself just what that may be?
