Cat Ski Mount Bailey - Diamond Lake, Oregon

Things to do / Travel Guide

Address:Diamond Lake, Oregon

Our Ski Specialist Says:

Cat Ski Mount Bailey is no regular mountain, as one would assume from the name, and is not lift serviced. At 7:00am, one Bombardier snow cat, with a heated 12 passenger cab, sets out for the snow park. Once you arrive at the snow park, safety instructions are provided by the guides you're with, avalanche beacons are distributed, and off you go. Sounds exhilarating doesn't it?

The ride on the snow cat to the mountain takes about 45 minutes and each group of skiers needs a minimum number of experienced local guides to join them on their adventures. There are only 2 snow cats that provide this service, so make sure to sign up early. 27 skiers/snowboarders will make it up the hill every day and get to ride between 5-8 runs, with the last run of the day at 3:30pm.

Similar to heli-skiing, but without the jumping, cat skiing is much cheaper, and is uninterrupted by bad weather up above. Once you get up the mountain you will be greeted by unspoiled deep powder. You'll automatically feel the urge to carve new tracks right into the 8,363 foot high mountain. Mt. Bailey is covered in untracked chutes, big bowls, and beautiful glades. These adventures come packed with a deli lunch, but due to the limited number of spaces available reservations must be made well in advance. Beginners should beware; this is 100% expert skiing.

Lunch is included on your cat skiing adventure, but dining in the evening is up to you. Self-catering is available, and there are a few restaurants in the Diamond Lake Resort. The Diamond Lake Resort is the home base for Cat Ski Mt Bailey. This is a full-service, year round, family destination. Lodging is available in motel rooms, and there are also two bedroom guest cabins.
