The diverse landscape of Willamette National Forest includes volcanoes, rock pinnacles, lava fields, craters and cinder cones, and that's just the beginning! The forest is home to The Collier Glacier, Oregon's largest, which contains stands of old-growth forest, some of which are over 300 feet tall, along with Douglas fir, lacey-leafed western red cedar, prickly Engleman spruce and lazy-topped western hemlock. Willamette National Forest is also home to over 300 species of fish and wildlife, including the northern spotted owl, Northern Bald Eagle, Chinook salmon, Bull trout, Southern Red-backed Vole, Wolverine and several other sensitive and threatened species.
Visitors to Willamette National Forest can enjoy a wide variety of recreation opportunities during the summer and winter months, as well as developed campgrounds, trails, Scenic Byways and ski resorts. The forest boasts clear rivers, streams and lakes, and promising outdoor fun that's second to none.
The Willamette National Forest is easily accessed from the Salem, Albany, and Eugene areas of the Willamette Valley. Four important highways-U.S. Route 20 and Oregon State Routes 22, 58, and 126 cross the forest.
